The Fundamentals of Interior ArchitectureSecond Edition
"Kazuya Nakamoto designed this family house which was converted from ajoining buildings and accommodates three generations within the building envelope. Located in a residential area of Miyajima Island (Japan), it consists of two main buildings enclosing a central courtyard and is approached from the street by a connecting roofed passage. Visual and aural privacy is enhanced by situating the living spaces at opposite ends and on different floor of the property. Though retaining the traditional timber pole roof structure and room disposition, the interior has been reconfigured in a modernist planar idiom using timber, black powder coated steel, and white plaster."
